Don’t be one of those lawyers that tries to do business with a Gmail address or with a Mac address. In this day and age, it is as easy as it could possibly be for you to go to Google and sign up through Gmail and get an email address that matches your website. You can do it through Office 365, the Microsoft product. It is as easy as it could possibly be. If you’ve got your own website, if you own the domain, you could go through Microsoft, you can go through Google and you can have an email for your law firm that matches your website. And it’s table stakes in this day and age. It is so cheap and it is so easy. And you’re going to need to either go down the Office 365 path and do the Microsoft thing or you’re going to need to go down the Google Gmail path and do that thing because you’re going to need … For example, I have multiple businesses.

Some are on the Gmail platform, some are on Office 365. My law firm, we run an Office 365. So I use PowerPoint and Excel and Word and I use all that stuff and I use OneDrive. I mean, when you sign up for one of these accounts, you get all this free online storage. And so one of the first things you’re going to need to do when you set up your law firm is you’re going to need to figure out how am I going to access either Sheets or I’m going to have to access Excel? When you sign up through Google, the Gmail path, you go to Office 365 Microsoft to get all this other stuff, you have the ability as long as you own your own domain for your website for you to match up your email address to your domain. And so do not be one of those people that is operating in this day and age with a Gmail address for your business.

I’m sure that you all have the same reaction that I do. It feels unprofessional. It feels like people are not trying. And it’s so simple. It is really something that is a turnoff for me. When I get leads from potential clients and they are a general contractor or they’re an architect or something like that, and I’m like, oh, well, I mean, there’s a lot of indicia of this being somebody that might be a good client for me. If I see that they’re coming at me with a Gmail address, I am immediately thinking that they’re not playing a win. And so do yourself a favor. You’re going to have to go down the Gmail, Google, or the Microsoft Office 365 path for other reasons. Don’t be one of those guys with an email address that’s not professional. It’s so easy to set up. You can do it in just a few minutes.

And I think that that is absolutely essential in this day and age if you want to run a small law firm and be received by people and make the right sort of impression with people that is going to tend to encourage them to want to do business with you.
